Terms of use
Last updated October 22, 2026
By creating a journal or using Sello you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.
Your account and your keys
- Your phone is the key to your journal. Keep a screen lock on it.
- Your backup key is the only way back in if you lose your phone. We never see it and can’t reset it. If you lose both your phone and your backup key, your private entries are gone for good, and that is by design.
- You are responsible for what happens in your journal and for keeping your devices secure. Revoke any browser you don’t recognise in Settings.
- You are responsible for the security of your devices and your backup key. Sello can’t protect your entries on a compromised device, or on an unlocked one in someone else’s hands.
Your content
- You own what you write and upload. You give us only the permission needed to store it, sync it to your devices and, for posts you publish, show them to the public.
- Publishing is your choice. Once something is public, others may copy or archive it before you make it private again.
- Photos and videos must be under 10 MB each.
- The Sello apps only show your own journal; public blogs are read on the web, not inside the app.
What you can’t publish
Don’t use Sello to publish anything illegal, sexual content involving minors, threats or harassment, other people’s private information, malware, spam, or content that infringes someone else’s rights. We may remove public posts or close journals that do, and cooperate with lawful requests. We can’t see private entries, so we can’t moderate them, but you are still responsible for them. If you see a public post that breaks these rules, use Report a concern at the bottom of any blog, or the contact form.
Journal names
Names are first come, first served. We may reclaim a name that impersonates someone, infringes a trademark or has been unused for a long time.
The service
Sello is provided as is, from a small self-hosted setup, without warranties. We do our best to keep it running and your data safe, but outages and data loss can happen: keep copies of anything you can’t afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect damages or lost content. We may change or end the service; if we shut it down, we’ll give notice so you can export your writing.
Ending
You can stop using Sello at any time and delete your journal in Settings. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Panamá. Questions: [email protected].
