Back up and export

Your journal is yours to take. In Settings › Your data, on your phone or on the computer, there are two kinds of file.

Encrypted backup

• A .sello file with every entry, photo and video, still encrypted.
• It opens only with your backup key, the one you had when you made it.
• Safe to keep in the cloud or on a USB drive.
• To bring it back, Import it in Sello, on this journal or another one.

Readable copy

• A ZIP with one Markdown file per entry and the photos and videos, for Obsidian, Hugo, WordPress or a folder on your computer.
• Not encrypted: anyone with the file can read every entry. Your phone asks you to confirm first.
• Sello can import it back too.

Importing a backup

Import adds the entries that aren’t in your journal yet and skips the ones that are, so it’s safe to import the same file twice.
