Lost or new phone
Your journal lives on our server, encrypted. A new phone gets it back with your backup key.
- Install Sello on the new phone and tap Recover with backup key.
- Type your journal name and the key, or tap Use my saved key if it’s in your password manager.
- Confirm with your fingerprint. Your entries download, and the new phone holds the key from now on.
The old phone is signed out everywhere, so whoever has it can’t open your journal any more. The same goes when you just change phones.
If your phone was lost or stolen
- Recover on a new phone as soon as you can. That cuts the old one off.
- Until then your screen lock protects it: Sello opens only with your fingerprint, face or PIN.
- Then make a new backup key (Settings › Security › New backup key) if the old one might have been seen.
Without your backup key
We can’t open your private entries: nobody has their key but your phone and your backup key. Your published entries are still on your blog. If you want the journal deleted, see how.
Giving away a phone
Settings › Security › Remove from this phone takes Sello off it. Your journal stays online, and your backup key brings it back.
